Heeadline: Natural Light and Your Health
What does having a window in your office have to do with your health? Quite a bit according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
The study group included 49 office workers. 22 had windows near their desks and 27 were windowless on the job. The researchers measured office light exposure and collected data on participants sleep length and quality, as well as physical activity. Employees with windows were exposed to 173 percent more white light and slept an average of 46 more minutes per night. They also exercised more and reported a better quality of life. According to the senior study author, there is increasing evidence that exposure to light during the day especially in the morning is beneficial to your health affecting mood, alertness and metabolism.
Her co-lead author says architects need to be aware of the importance of natural light not just for energy savings but for workers
