Trump to Gut Obama Climate Plan

An executive order to undo the Obama administration’s plan to combat climate change will be signed Tuesday by President Donald Trump, according to the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Scott Pruitt said the order will dismantle the 2015 Clean Power Plan, which limits greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants. The rule has been in limbo due to a legal challenge by some states and more than 100 companies, the Associated Press reported.

By scrapping the plan, the Trump administration hopes to bring back coal-mining jobs and lower the cost of electricity, Pruitt said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Supporters of Obama’s plan argue it would encourage thousands of clean energy jobs and help the U.S. achieve carbon pollution reduction targets set by the Paris climate accord, the AP reported.
