Eggo Waffles Recalled Due to Potential Listeria

The Kellogg Company announced Tuesday that it is recalling 10,000 cases of its Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles due to potential contamination with the Listeria germ, which can cause serious gastrointestinal illness.

The recall affects products distributed to 25 states and comes as “a result of routine tests that the company conducts which identified the potential for contamination,” Kellogg said in a statement on its website. “As soon as the company learned of a potential concern, it moved quickly to identify any foods that might be impacted and resolve the issue,” Kellogg added.

The company says it has not yet received any reports of illness linked to the recalled products. For more information on the products involved in the recall, head to https://www.leggomyeggo.com/en_US/alert.html.

As the company explained, infection with the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium usually results in short-term illness — high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea in otherwise healthy people.

However, the illness can be more severe, even fatal, in young children, frail or elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems, Kellogg’s noted.
