Health Tip: If You Have Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea — when you stop breathing for short periods during sleep — can leave you tired and feeling run down while you’re awake.

So what should you do? The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute recommends:

  • Visiting your doctor regularly to make sure your treatment is working.
  • Avoiding weight gain. Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce your risk of complications from sleep apnea.
  • Understanding the potential dangers of driving or using heavy machinery if you’re tired from sleep apnea.
  • Seeing your dentist regularly if you use a mouthpiece for sleep apnea.
